Aka - The Green Hornet review.
It's an odd atmosphere attending a pre-release screening of a new movie. The cinema is packed with a random selection of people from all walks of life who are certainly excited to be there but truthfully only because of winning free tickets. I would bet that most weren't intending on seeing the film in the first place. And then you have the M.C, the studio/cinema rep who instructs you that you WILL LIKE THIS MOVIE even if the movie turns out to be less interesting than a doco about intestinal worms.
When I saw the trailer for The Green Hornet ages ago, well it looked like it would be a cheesy action movie that would be further destroyed by the dubious acting of Seth Rogan. Don't get me wrong, S.R. can be quite funny but all his movies feel the same somehow and it's getting old. And in this movie nothing changes, he still plays the same bumbling douchbag.Thankfully he is outshone by his co-stars Kato and the incredibly beast that is the green hornet mobile.
Kato, the green hornet's sidekick, is a genius mechanic and time-warping kungfu master. The insane vehicle that he creates would make 007's Aston Martin curl up in the fetal position. It has a unlimited supply of machine gun rounds and rockets that seem to appear from every panel of the car. And it magically changes from RWD to AWD whenever the plots deems it necessary :D This movie's finale has one of the most ridiculous yet awesome car chases I've ever seen and highlights that there seemed to be little in the way of CG but has lots of proper visual effects and explosions.
I saw this movie in 3D and if you intend on seeing it, DO NOT see it in 3D. It's not like the 3d will make your eye's explode, it's just it doesn't do anything other than make the actors seem like cardboard cutouts. Oh the beginning and end credits made good use of 3D.. woohoo.. /sarcasm
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie, maybe I just had super low expectations and it was free, but it was a funny, exciting film that never slowed down or took itself too seriously. So despite not wanting to like it, I've found myself recommending it to anyone who'll pretend to listen. Damn.. the M.C's mind control worked...
Mini Review: Reading Cinemas Belmont new Titan XE screen
Having seen two films on this screen now, the first being Tron:Legacy, I have to say that this is one of the best cinemas I have ever sat in front of. While it's not as big as Hoyts Imax, they are using super crispy digital projectors and the image is awesome. Not as awesome as the sound tho!! The cinemas promo clip is enough to make your ears bleed from the awesomeness and in Tron you could feel the bass exploding underneath your seat. Certainly this will be the recommended way to view all upcoming awesome movies this year.
