5min M&M chocolate cake for 1

I normally cant be bothered doing much baking because it makes lots of dishes, takes lots of time, and when your single it's hard to make something small enough that you don't end up with leftovers that you'll gorge yourself silly on. But this week I came across this recipe for a chocolate cake you can make in the microwave. The original recipe came from http://gamereats.blogspot.com/ and I substituted M&M's instead of choc chips. This filled up the biggest mug I could find so I think you could halve the recipe for a normal size mug :)

  • 4 tbs / 45 gms self raising flour
  • 4 tbs / 55gms caster sugar
  • 2 tbs / 17gms cocoa powder
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbs / 43 mls milk
  • 3 tbs / 25 mls sunflower oil or butter
  • 2 tablespoons M&M's or choc chips (optional)
  • A small dash of vanilla extract
  • 1 large coffee mug
  1. Add dry ingredients to the mug, and mix well.
  2. Add the egg and wet ingredients, and mix.
  3. Add the M&M minis (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again
  4. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes (in a 1000 watt microwave).
  5. The cake will rise above the top of the mug, but don't worry it’s supposed to!
  6. Allow to cool a little, tip out onto a plate (or eat right out of the mug!)

Success!! The M&M's melted but left all the colours through the cake :D
